Topographies
Topographies is an ongoing series of modular ink drawings that document states of temporal and spatial suspension. Rather than illustrating physical landscapes, the work functions as a performative record of waiting. The drawings are executed during periods of displacement; in transit, within adjacent holding areas, or during the suspended intervals of domestic life.
Planned as a fragmented topography across 20 distinct panels, the series reflects the fractured nature of time experienced in liminal spaces. The breaks between the panels document process interruptions, creating a deliberately disjointed composite image. The final installation illustrates the human attempt to impose order onto uncontrollable circumstances.
The technical execution of the works is deliberately antagonistic to its environment. Utilizing a fragile apparatus of Indian ink, dip pens, and handmade cotton rag, a studio-bound methodology is forced into unpredictable, temporary spaces. The physical struggle to maintain precise, biomorphic line work under these constraints introduces intentional material friction. The resulting degradation of the paper fibers and the density of the topographical lines act as an objective metric for enduring an uncontrollable duration.
