Bathymetric Studies
Originally conceived as a record of stillness (Meditations), this series has evolved into Bathymetric Studies, a mapping of depth and transformation through material process.
A solid field of acrylic paint is swept onto the canvas with a silicone wedge, establishing the submerged topography. The wedge leaves marks behind, and these marks serve as the given environment. Adopting the visual language of oceanography, the subsequent line work is applied with a liner brush, functioning as a sounding line. These lines are charted in direct relation to the wedge’s structural moves and residual marks, measuring and reorganizing the base terrain: sometimes following the ridges, sometimes overriding, or pushing against them.

This high-intensity environment enforces a shared physical experience. Prolonged observation saturates the retina, inducing a temporary negative afterimage washed in phantom green; a lingering ghost of the intensity present during its creation. This biological transience is mirrored in the physical materials. The fugitive neon base is designed to gradually fade over time, mimicking the retinal afterimage.
