Topographies is an ongoing ink series, conceived across twenty panels, executed during suspended intervals of waiting: at outdoor tables, in public waiting areas, or within the interrupted margins of domestic life. Rather than depicting physical landscapes, the work records the psychological and physical friction of enduring uncertain durations.

The series emerged when standard travel sketchbooks and pigment pens, the ones I use while in transit, proved too effortless to occupy my mind during high-stress periods of waiting. To force complete mental presence, I began setting up a studio-bound kit of open India ink, steel dip pens, and handmade cotton paper in temporary stationary spaces, starting at an outdoor cafe table beside a railway line. Because the setup is deliberately demanding and unforgiving, it leaves no room for distraction: the intense physical concentration required to manage liquid ink, gauge the wind drying the nib, or steady the hand against a vibrating table actively overrides the anxiety of waiting.

Environmental disruptions, broken concentration, and the resistance of the cotton fibers register directly in the lines. Because all twenty panels must ultimately lock together as a unified whole, and no single mark can be undone, each sheet demands heightened attention.

Selected completed panels (Series in progress, 2026–present).
